sunday lunch.

this past sunday i was reminded of what a Christian family should be like.

after attending a service in Niverville, i was invited to an older couples house with a friend of mine (the seem to have "adopted" him into their family). apparently it is tradition that the whole family comes over after the service and they are free to invite anyone for the meal. there were four generations in the house: the grandparents, their kids, their kids, and their kids. the couple have been living in Niverville since 1932. wowza.

it was just a nice experience of meeting new people and having great food. for the poor college student who makes himself meals, this was definitely a treat.

what i was getting at earlier. i really admire this family for focusing outward and opening up their house to people within their sphere of influence. it is not everyday you meet people who are willing to feed a total stranger and send them away with a plate full of leftovers.
i think that the Christian, as a follow of Christ, has a responsibility to love everyone around them; people beyond their family.

if we really want to have an impact on the world, why focus inward on yourself and just those in your immediate family?

gah, i cannot until i can stop playing the poor college student...

something special, just for me (and now for you)

have you ever had one of those moments where something cool happened, but if you ever explained it to someone it wouldn't sound nearly as awesome as it actually is and the other person would not appreciate it nearly as much as you do?

as you may know, i'm currently reading the narnia series. a while back, i was reading 'prince caspian' and i was at the part where he is fleeing from his home. later on that night i was walking down a back path through a forest that reaches Prov. the book kinda came alive in that moment. it was pretty sweet.

THEN i saw this sign hanging in the forest. and it blew my mind.

kel's tips 001

so, i thought i would impart some of my knowledge on personal care to the masses. personal improvement is always a good thing, whether it be for body or mind. so stay tuned for little updates. anyway...

hygiene.

brushing teeth. flossing. mouth wash. all normal parts of oral hygiene.
one often missed step from this daily ritual is using your tooth brush to wash out the mouth wash taste and smell. the subtle smell of minty alcohol is not going to impress anyone, so be sure to do a final rinse before you head out.

becoming a blogger pt 2

so the past year has been full of some random thoughts, some deep thoughts that i toss around and others funny thoughts that stroll on into my head. whatever the post, blogging has really been a great outlet for me. i'm not even sure if anyone reads this anymore, but it is just nice to get my thoughts out there.

this year, i think i want to be a bit more consistent with posting in my blog. i have a lot of thoughts that i want to remember and what better place then to put them then online for everyone to see?
here's to another great year of WEB LOGGING!!1!1!!

cheers,
kel

winter break #3 (gaming)

what has taken up a good chunk of my time these past two weeks? three little discs named final fantasy 13. i've been meaning to beat this game for a few months now (i actually started last april) and now seem liked the perfect time to invest time into it.

people usually give video games a hard time, but RPGs (role playing games) are very similar to books in the sense that you're having a story unravel, but with upgradeable characters. more engaging.

anyway, good game, sad ending, people die. would play again. in ten years.

time for a movie?

winter break #2 (reading)

so, after watching the third Narnia film, i decided i wanted to read the series over Christmas break. granted, this is not the most stimulating material for a third year social science major to read, i feel like it is a classic and great for light LIGHT reading. besides, who wants to be reading naomi klein's 'the shock doctrine' after taking six classes [ecology anyone?]?

finished the first one a few days ago, hope to finish the second one soon.
i'll probably read these to my kids are something.

anyway, i'm gonna go play some video games...
